The Customer

The Salvation Army are a Christian denominational church and international charitable organisation present in 127 countries. The Salvation Army run charity shops, operate shelters for the homeless, provide personal hygiene relief and humanitarian aid to developing countries.

The Challenge

The Salvation Army required a complete building refurbishment & extension in Harpenden to create a fantastic multi-use community centre.

As they operate as a non-profit organisation, efficiencies were key to ensure budgets were adhered to.

From design, to procurement, to construction Premier Support Services worked very closely with our clients to ensure we could Make a Difference.

The Result

We began with a partial demolition of the existing hall and a number of structural alterations to the internal & external facade, including construction and installation of  beam & block flooring.

Inside the building, partitions were built to break the space up into a worship hall, fully equipped commercial kitchen, toilets and 3 multi-use halls.

We removed all existing mechanical & electrical components and installed a new twin boiler heating system, bespoke toilet solution and new drainage system.

We designed & installed all new electrical features including LED lighting, feature lighting and emergency lighting.

A new curved entrance lobby was constructed, with a wrap around glass frontage to optimise natural lighting.

To cater to the clients requirements, we installed DDA approved disabled access & facilities, including a platform lift, compliant handrails & ramps, plus a toilet complete with wet room and shower.

The property was fully renovated to give a modern and contemporary face-lift. This was achieved by external landscaping and decorative retaining sleeper walls.

The rear car park was resurfaced to include new gradients & a new kerb layout that was in-keeping with the new landscaping.
